Crime & justiceCrime
Key Points
  • Hikers found a dead person in Kristiansand, with police investigating as a climbing accident.
  • Two other outdoor fatalities occurred in Kramfors and Sandnes, with no crime suspected in either case.
  • Ongoing searches for missing persons in Karlstad and Hallsberg, along with multiple arrests and minor offenses reported.

The body was found at Kjærrane, located in challenging terrain approximately an hour's walk from the nearest road. Ambulance, doctor, and police responded to the scene, where the person was declared dead. Police are investigating the incident as a climbing accident and have secured evidence supporting this hypothesis. Climbing equipment remains in the mountain at the site, and police have requested extra personnel to retrieve and secure it with assistance from the fire department. Forensic technicians are working to map the accident site in detail, including using a drone.

Police have not yet determined exactly when the accident occurred. Hikers alerted emergency services at 18:44 on Saturday evening, and police have already spoken with those who made the discovery. Authorities are mapping all movements in the area during the time period before the discovery. Police continue to investigate the fatal climbing accident.

Police have a clear idea of who the deceased is but are working to confirm the identity with high standards. Police are considering whether to perform an autopsy on the deceased man.

Lars Erik Omland, leader of Christianssand Klatreklubb, described the climbing community in Kristiansand as affected by the death at Kjærrane. He noted that the climbing club did not have any climbing activities in the area over the weekend. The cliff wall is often used by the club's members, with an easier section likely used in this case. Omland described climbing as normally a safe sport with few accidents in the area.

In a separate incident, a man who had been missing from his residence since March was found dead outdoors near forest land in Kramfors on Saturday. The man was found a couple of kilometers from his residence, and no crime is suspected in the case. Next of kin have been notified.

A third fatal incident occurred in Sandnes, where a search operation was launched overnight for a man in his 40s who did not return from a training trip in the Steinsfjellet/Lutsifjellet/Dybingen area. The rescue helicopter located a person lying in the terrain shortly after midnight, and police found a dead person at the site. There were strong winds and difficult flying conditions at the Sandnes site. The man was carried out from the area by volunteer helpers and police, with no suspicion of a criminal offense. Relatives have been notified in this case as well.

Police are also searching for a missing man in Karlstad, with the search continuing east of Klarälven from his residence northwards. Authorities are on site with dog handlers and a helicopter, assisted by the Home Guard and Missing People. More than 100 people joined Missing People's search effort on Monday evening. The man was last seen when he left his residence at Jägartorpet on Saturday evening. Police currently suspect no crime in connection with his disappearance and appeal to the public not to search independently but to contact Missing People for organized efforts.

In a separate Karlstad incident, reports came in during the morning about the public reacting to a man with deviant behavior. The person allegedly said something verbally that people reacted to but did not have any weapon. According to multiple reports, the person expressed some form of threat towards people near a school, leading to a report of unlawful threat. The person has now left the area, and police assess that the situation is calm with no danger to the public. Police continue to search the central parts of Karlstad to locate the person, whose whereabouts and identity remain unknown.

In Hallsberg, a man in his 60s has been reported missing since Friday, April 3, with police initiating a search and appealing for public help.

Multiple arrests for violent crimes have occurred across the region. A man in his 70s has been arrested and detained overnight suspected of rape against a woman in her 50s. A man in his 60s is arrested suspected of having threatened and assaulted a woman in her 80s, with no serious injuries involved. A man in his 50s is detained suspected of gross assault after allegedly hitting another man in the head with a weapon, causing a hematoma. Security guards arrested a man in his 30s at a bar in Tingvallastaden suspected of assaulting a woman in her 20s.

Several traffic and minor offenses have also been reported. A male driver in his 20s was stopped from driving on Cordvägen in Älvenäs/Vålberg, suspected of recklessness in traffic, gross unauthorized driving, and not stopping at a police signal. The driver allegedly tried to flee from police initially but was caught quickly and had a revoked license with a driving ban on the vehicle. A teenage boy was stopped trying to enter a bar using another person's ID, involving two boys born in 2008. A boy in his teens was reported for drug driving and minor narcotics offense after being stopped with his A-tractor.
