A Hemköp grocery store in Spelhagen, Nyköping, has removed all its self-checkout machines due to theft. The store had six self-checkouts installed about four years ago, along with two regular checkouts. According to store manager Robin Ljungh, many customers have been cheating, and the theft has escalated, becoming too costly for the store.
The self-checkouts have been replaced with two new regular checkouts. Ljungh stated that the store will now focus more on staffing the checkout line and adjusting personnel planning to maintain or improve flow with four regular checkouts.
