Helsingborg started the Superettan season with a 4-1 home victory over Öster at Olympia in Helsingborg. Demba N'Diaye scored the opening goal in the third minute from a corner, but Oscar Uddenäs equalized for Öster shortly after. Ervin Gigovic then gave Helsingborg the lead again with a long-range shot before halftime.
In the second half, Clancy Biten made it 3-1, and Alexander Johansson sealed the win with a late goal. Nearly 10,000 spectators reportedly attended the match. Before kickoff, a minute of silence was held in honor of former Helsingborg coach Åge Hareide, who died last December.
The win marks a strong start for Helsingborg's new coach Stevie Grieve, while Öster's new coach Max Mölder faced a tough debut.
