Helsingborg Bars Collaborate to Combat Drug Use in Nightlife

Crime & justiceCrime
Key Points
  • Bars in Helsingborg join Bars Against Drugs program with police and authorities to fight drug use.
  • The initiative includes staff training and sobriety requirements to identify and prevent drug-related issues.
  • Bar owners report societal drug problems and hope more venues will participate in the certification.

Two of the Helsingborg bars certified in Bars Against Drugs are Drottninggatan 35 and Utposten. The bars, Helsingborg Police, HBG City, and Helsingborg Municipality collaborate to reduce drug use and drug-related crime in bars. A step in the process is that bar staff undergo training.

A requirement in the certification is that all staff must be sober and drug-free during working hours. ' After the pandemic, many new young people entered the industry. ' The bar Utposten in Helsingborg has existed for over 30 years.

So it is an eternal work and it may not be possible to remove it completely, but we do what we can.

In recent years, Tord Åkesson and his colleagues have struggled to remove drugs, even before joining the Bars Against Drugs collaboration. Utposten became a place where drug sales gained a foothold. ' During corona, it calmed down, and after that they decided to break the development.

Measures implemented at Utposten included removing slot machines and cash, increasing camera surveillance, and having more staff on duty.

We did not see it at first, but then noticed that organized guys started taking place and used Utposten as their branch.
