The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued the alert for the ready-to-eat chicken nuggets, which may contain lead levels five times above the FDA's daily limit for children, according to tests. The nuggets were sold nationwide under the Great Value brand in 29-ounce plastic bags containing 36 pieces, with a best if used by date of February 10, 2027, and were available as recently as February 10, 2024. Parents are urged to check freezers for the affected products, identified by lot code 0416DPO1215 and establishment number P44164 on the packaging, and to discard them or return them for a full refund, as advised by the FSIS health alert.
2 micrograms of lead per day. The contamination was detected during routine testing by a state agency, and while no recall has been issued because the nuggets have already been removed from shelves, the FSIS says other Walmart-brand products are being tested and more could be added to the alert. It remains unclear how the chicken nuggets were contaminated with lead, which company manufactured them, or exactly how many were affected.
