Hazardous waste vehicle collects twice yearly in Örebro
Key Points
  • Hazardous waste vehicle collects twice a year, in spring and fall.
  • Spring round runs May 4-14, visiting 39 locations.
  • Vehicle collects three tons per year; per capita collection declined from 22 kg to 17 kg between 2020 and 2024.

The vehicle typically receives between 300 and 500 visitors per round and collects three tons of hazardous waste annually. However, sorting analyses show that much more hazardous waste could be collected, as hazardous materials often end up in residual waste, complicating recycling or causing environmental and health damage. Households are obliged to sort out hazardous waste from other waste.

According to research, the amount of collected hazardous waste per person decreased from 22 kg in 2020 to 17 kg in 2024. The research notes that this decrease could be positive if it means less waste overall, or negative if waste is not sorted correctly. Ola Eklöf, unit manager for customer service waste, said in a press release that no one wants hazardous waste in the wrong place and that the vehicle makes sorting easier, especially for those who cannot easily reach a recycling center.

He added that hazardous substances in small quantities can cause great damage if misplaced.
