Schools in Härjedalen municipality are reportedly facing significant budget challenges, with preliminary figures showing a combined budget overrun of 14 million kronor. According to SVT Jämtlandsnytt, acting education chief Tony Lööw stated that this deficit could translate to between 20 and 30 job cuts across the municipality's schools. The budget issues emerged as school principals submitted preliminary budgets for 2026, revealing substantial overspending when combined.
Johan Fredholm (M), chairman of the education committee, warned that without intervention, the current financial trajectory would continue. Lööw emphasized that the municipality cannot proceed into the future with these deficit figures, noting that personnel costs represent a major portion of school budgets. While the exact number of potential job losses remains uncertain, officials acknowledge that staffing reductions may be necessary to address the financial shortfall.
