Håbo Municipality Terminates Taxi Contract After School Transport Failures
Key Points
  • Håbo municipality terminated its contract with Cabonline after repeated failures in school transport services.
  • Cabonline has received fines for deviations in other municipalities, including 1.6 million kronor in Uppsala.
  • The municipality conducted extra follow-ups but decided to end the contract due to ongoing problems.

Three days before the spring term started, a taxi appeared outside the Fröling family's home to take Liam to school. Teresa Fröling explained to the taxi driver that school did not start that day, but in a few days. According to Fröling, the taxi came every day until school actually started, and then it did not appear.

Since school started, the school transport has been too late, too early, or not shown up at all. At the end of last year, the contract with the previous taxi company expired and Håbo municipality procured a new supplier. The company that won the contract, Cabonline, has received fines for deviations in Uppsala, Malmö, and Jönköping.

I had to go out and explain that school does not start today, but in a few days. We laughed a little, but then they came every day until school was actually supposed to start. Then the taxi did not appear instead.

Now we see that it has gone wrong more times than it has gone right. " Cabonline, in an official statement, said it regrets failing in delivery and has been working to improve school transports for some time. The company will respect the municipality's decision and cooperate during the transition phase.

We were aware of previous problems, but we felt secure with the requirements we set in the procurement.

It is unknown how many students in Håbo municipality are affected by the taxi service issues or what specific improvements Cabonline is making. Teresa Fröling previously ran for the Bålsta Party in the municipal election but currently holds no political positions.

We noticed fairly quickly after the start that there were problems. Now we see that it has gone wrong more times than it has gone right. We therefore choose to terminate the contract.
