The dream house in central Uddebo, spanning about 600 square meters, is now owned by Agust Örn Helgason and his partner Camille Monod, who have taken it on with eight other people establishing a limited company to save and manage it. Known as Uddaberg, the house was built around 1910, as evidenced by pencil writing on old wooden beams, and has contained both a shop and five apartments. Agust has had his eye on the property since he moved to the small village, as it has stood empty for as long as he has lived there.
Seven years ago, a friend of Agust calculated the costs for the project, and the goal is for all involved to renovate most of it themselves and use as much recycled material as possible. It is not determined what the house will become in the future, nor whether Agust, Camille, and their son Arden will actually live in it themselves. Some elderly people who live in houses but want to live in apartments in the future have contacted them, and many people want to visit Uddebo, so perhaps it could be short-term accommodation.
Borås Tidning was first to report on this acquisition, highlighting community interest in the project.
