A glowing glass heart and a basket with a flower arrangement were stolen from the grave at Västra cemetery last week, marking the second such incident in a short period. Two lamps have previously been stolen from the grave. Jane Hilmersson, Fredrik Kataja's mother, visits her son's grave daily.
In response, Jane Hilmersson now marks all items with Fredrik's name with a marker pen to prevent further thefts. The family has not reported the thefts to the police but will do so if it happens again. Jane Hilmersson and the cemetery manager have ruled out deer or magpies as the cause, as heavy items were stolen and the grave was otherwise in order.
It's terrible. You don't do that.
Annethe Malmström, Jane's sister, made a social media post about the thefts that has generated significant engagement. The identity of the thief and the motive behind the thefts are still unknown. There are no confirmed suspects or leads in the case.
The exact dates of the thefts have not been disclosed.
The person who had taken the flower basket had moved a pot and placed it in that spot, as if I wouldn't notice anything.
This is an important place for many, both for me, the family, and Fredrik's friends, and we receive so much praise from others about how the place lights up the cemetery.
