Region Gotland holds a special responsibility for civil defense and is a central actor in healthcare, social services, rescue services, water and sewage, public transport, and other socially important operations. The direction highlights four overarching goal areas: robust care for all on Gotland, resilient infrastructure and supply, strong capacity to manage crises and conflicts, and efficient collaboration and total defense coordination. According to Region Gotland, the new direction provides a clearer common target image and facilitates capability development.
During spring, the region will translate the direction into operational plans, with each administration and company analyzing the impact on their operations. The specific implementation measures and funding allocation have not been detailed. Lisa Nordahl, Preparedness and Security Director at Region Gotland, said: "Total defense is not built by one actor at a time – it is built together.
Total defense is not built by one actor at a time – it is built together. For Region Gotland, the new direction means that we get a clearer compass for how we should develop our own preparedness and how we best support other actors, not least the Armed Forces. It is about both strengthening our internal processes and continuing to build the collaborations that are absolutely decisive in a sharp situation.
Now we continue the work together within Region Gotland and continue to build a region that stands strong even when the outside world is unsure. It is a work that concerns us all – and where every part of the organization has an important role.
