The Children and Education Committee of Region Gotland convened on April 15, handling 16 matters including an interim report. 9 million kronor compared to 2025. 7 million kronor compared to the same period last year.

According to the committee, the deficit is partly due to fewer children and students being in after-school centers than planned for, and increased net costs related to a changed periodization of state grants. The committee reviewed a follow-up report on premises needs for Dalhem preschool and elementary school, having previously tasked the Education and Working Life Administration to produce a cost calculation for new construction of a modern preschool with three departments for about 50–55 children, or adaptation of an existing building to accommodate three preschool departments. The number of children is expected to be stable until 2030, and the administration assesses that a permanent solution is necessary because the time-limited building permit for the current pavilion expires in 2027 and cannot be extended.

45 million kronor. The committee decided to task the administration to continue working with planning based on the proposed direction regarding maintenance and adaptation of the existing preschool building. The administration is to return to the committee with a follow-up report at the meeting in June.

The committee today handled the matter of Västerhejde school's premises, with the government recently making a decision in the fall regarding the building permit for a new permanent school building to the County Administrative Board, which was a no, citing proximity to Tofta firing range. Applications for time-limited building permits for the pavilion have been submitted retroactively.
