  • Committee finalizes budget request for 2027-2029 seeking over 30 million kronor increase for 2027
  • Budget increase includes funds for more students, state decisions, and various educational programs
  • Wisbygymnasiet sets 601 educational places for 2026/27, a 51-place increase, with 618 applicants

At a meeting on March 26, the Gymnasium and Adult Education Committee (GVN) of Region Gotland completed its goal and budget document for the 2027-2029 period. The committee decided to request a total budget increase of over 30 million kronor specifically for 2027. 1 million kronor to receive more students within adapted gymnasium school, 167,000 kronor for salary adjustments within Child and Student Health, and 300,000 kronor for further education within the professions program.

The committee also determined which programs and specializations will start for grade 1 at Wisbygymnasiet for the 2026/27 school year and the number of educational places in each program. The number of educational places was set at a total of 601 across Wisbygymnasiet's 16 national programs and the nationally recruiting maritime education. This represents an increase of 51 places compared to both the previous year's organization and the preliminary organization established in October.

After the preliminary application period, 618 students have applied. The committee's proposal now goes to the regional board's budget preparation, with the regional assembly set to finally decide the budget issue in June. According to the GVN assessment, there is currently a balance between mission, goals, and resources, but the rate of change within the committee's area of responsibility remains high, and since the economy is strongly linked to targeted state grants, the forecast certainty is not entirely straightforward.

The requests made are an assessment the administration makes based on, among other things, the changes resulting from state decisions in the school world. This should, of course, be weighed against the economic resources that Region Gotland has at its disposal by the upcoming budget preparation.
