The air quality action program targets excessive levels of air particles during winter at Visby's busiest roads, primarily caused by road dust from studded tires and anti-skid materials. A new measure involves dust binding, where a salt solution is sprayed on roads during dry conditions to prevent dust from swirling into the air; this was tested in spring 2025 and showed significant effect. The program covers 2026–2031 and will be sent to the regional council for final decision.
For the Västerhejde Vibble housing development, the committee decided to send the detailed planning proposal for Västerhejde Vibble 1:6 for review, which enables about 44 new homes including terraced houses, semi-detached houses, and multi-family houses. The purpose is to increase housing variety in Vibble and strengthen its connection to Visby. The committee granted a building permit for 26 new terraced houses, with a preliminary decision from 2019 delayed by appeals until the government recently determined a permit should be granted.
In Visby Östergård, the committee decided to send a detailed planning proposal for Visby Östergård 2 for consultation and, to speed up the process, made the review decision in the same meeting. The plan aims to change land use from industry to businesses, offices, and sports. Additionally, the Environment and Building Committee approved its goal and budget statement for 2027–2029, which will be sent to the budget committee in spring 2026.
