The EM pond in Slottsskogen is being renovated during spring, while the Stora dammen and Hjorthagsdammen ponds will be restored starting in October, according to official sources. A new water feature will be placed on the upper part of Götaplatsen, between the Poseidon statue and the stairs to the Art Museum, and the existing water feature on the lower part, outside the City Library, will be removed, as confirmed by officials. According to Göteborgs-Posten, the project leader described the goal as healing Götaplatsen back together again.
The planned construction start for the Götaplatsen water feature is 2027, with completion expected during 2028, officials said. The cost should not exceed 8 million kronor, based on a decision in the city environment committee, and the feature is intended to operate during the summer half-year but can be turned off when needed. The renovation of ponds in Slottsskogen improves water environments, creating better conditions for plants and animals to live and develop, according to official reports.
We want to heal Götaplatsen back together again.
The Götaplatsen water feature is part of the city's long-term work to develop Avenyn and the central urban environments, officials noted. It remains unknown what specific plants and animals are currently living in the ponds being restored, and what will happen to the materials from the removed Götaplatsen water feature if they are not reused elsewhere.
