Göteborgs konstmuseum in Göteborg, Sweden, has received approval for a major renovation and expansion project. The city council approved the updated investment costs and higher rent for the museum on Thursday evening. The project is reportedly one of the city's largest cultural policy investments.

12 billion kronor, with an annual rent of 61 to 66 million kronor, compared to the current 10 million kronor. The museum is located in a historically valuable building on Götaplatsen. According to reports, the price increase is due to inflation and changed interest rates.

The museum plans to close in 2028 and reopen in 2032 with larger public spaces and improved facilities for the art collection. The cultural administration estimates that the number of visitors could double from about 250,000 per year to around 500,000 per year after the renovation. The project has been ongoing for several years, with an initial allocation of 800 million kronor decided in 2021.
