The Glasgow Subway, which is 129 years old, is in the midst of a major modernisation effort, according to SPT, which operates the subway. SPT says new passenger information screens are coming soon as part of its modernisation upgrades. The new passenger information screens are currently being tested during nighttime closures and will show the next station the train is approaching, SPT stated.
The specific date the new passenger information screens will be fully operational has not been determined. In addition, SPT is installing Platform Screen Doors (PSDs) at subway stations, first at Govan with Ibrox and Partick to follow. Once Platform Screen Doors are installed across all 15 stations, SPT plans to roll out Unattended Train Operation (UTO) or 'driverless' trains.

The timeline for installing Platform Screen Doors at all 15 stations remains unclear. The first of a suite of new trains entered passenger service in December 2023, SPT says.
