Gina Maria's Pizza closed all four of its locations to the public in October, and its parent company, Northern Brands Inc, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, according to multiple reports. The company had nearly $3 million in debts and $64,000 in assets as of March 26, and the bankruptcy will likely result in liquidation rather than restructuring. Gina Maria's Pizza first opened in 1975 in Minnetonka and grew to serve customers in Chanhassen, Eden Prairie, Edina, and Plymouth.
At the former Eden Prairie location, Pizzas Gina has opened, using the original recipes from Gina Maria's Pizza and receiving kitchen tools and supplies from the previous owners, according to Ulises Godinez. Separately, Albertsons closed 20 locations in Texas, California, and Washington, DC last year and plans to close more locations, multiple reports indicate. 6 billion merger with Kroger collapsed in court months ago.
Albertsons operates over 2,200 stores across 35 states under banners including Safeway, Vons, and Pavilions. Recent closures include two Albertsons stores in North Texas that will close by the end of April, cutting 138 jobs; a Safeway store in Washington, DC that will close in May, putting 87 workers out of work; Vons stores in Escondido and Redlands in Southern California that will close in April, resulting in 135 job losses; an Albertsons near Riverside that closed in March, leaving 75 people unemployed; and a Safeway in Northern California that closed earlier this year, axing 76 jobs.
