German filmmaker and author Alexander Kluge has died at the age of 94, according to reports from Variety citing his publisher. Kluge was a pioneer of the major West German film wave of the 1960s and 1970s with films such as 'Anita G – flicka utan förflutet' and 'Artisterna i cirkuskupolen: Rådlösa'. He won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 1968 for the latter.

Kluge was born in 1932 in Halberstadt in central Germany and began his career as a lawyer before transitioning to literature and film.
