Gen2 Energy wins EU funding for green hydrogen plant
Key Points
  • Gen2 Energy receives €62 million EU grant for green hydrogen plant in Mosjøen
  • Man sentenced to 90 days for fatal head-on crash that killed two sisters
  • FIFA rejects Nikita Haikin's switch to Norway due to residency rules

The project, selected in a competitive auction under the 2025 Innovation Fund, will combine electrolysis and liquefaction to close the cost gap between renewable hydrogen and conventional marine fuel. According to Gen2 Energy CEO Lena Halvari, the funding confirms that liquid hydrogen is moving from demonstration to industrial rollout. The Innovation Fund is financed by revenues from the EU's emissions trading system.

In a separate case, a man has been sentenced to 90 days in prison by Midtre Hålogaland District Court after a fatal head-on collision on the E10 in Tjeldsund. The Indonesian tourist was driving a rental car that collided with another vehicle in late January, killing two sisters in their 70s and seriously injuring a third sister. The man has served his sentence while in custody.

We await the latest messages from FIFA, but this is something we have been a little prepared for.

Ståle Solbakken, National team manager for Norway

FIFA has rejected Nikita Haikin's application to switch national association from Russia to Norway, citing residency requirements. Haikin, a Norwegian citizen who has lived in Bodø since 2019 except for a brief stint at Bristol City in 2023, played for Russia up to U21 level. According to NRK Nordland, national team manager Ståle Solbakken described the decision as not unexpected and said discussions with FIFA are ongoing. Solbakken must submit a preliminary squad by May 11.

We have always been clear that Ørjan (Nyland) and Egil (Selvik) are ready. Then there are some clear candidates competing for the third spot. Including Nikita Haikin if FIFA approves.

If it turns out that he cannot be considered due to FIFA's regulations, we just have to accept that. Then there will be two or three others competing for that spot.
