According to the University of Gävle, women and men of different ages, with different jobs, origins, places of residence, and political views will together discuss, learn, and reflect on how Gävle municipality can reduce the transport sector's emissions. The purpose of the citizens' council is to strengthen residents' participation and contribute to a more nuanced dialogue about climate. The citizens' council will meet on several occasions during the spring of 2026, though the exact dates or schedule for the meetings have not been specified.
The meetings are led by experienced conversation leaders and include dialogue, workshops, study visits, and expert lectures. During the meetings, researchers and experts in climate, transport, and urban planning participate. The role of the researchers and experts is to contribute knowledge and different perspectives, not to influence the participants' opinions.
The results and proposed solutions will be presented to politicians at the end of April. The report will also serve as a knowledge base for future decisions on climate and transport issues in Gävle municipality. It is not yet known how many participants are involved in the citizens' council, and how they were selected.
