Gang Murder in Thailand Linked to Violence in Västerås
Key Points
  • A 24-year-old gang criminal from Västerås was murdered in Thailand in February, linked to a network behind violent crimes.
  • Nine people are charged in a trial for an attempted murder in Eriksborg, with three underage boys suspected as shooters.
  • Police suspect a split in the gang network led to the attempted murder and other violent acts in Västerås and abroad.

According to police, the criminal network is behind several of the serious violent crimes that have shaken Västerås in the past two years. This includes the attempted murder in Apalby in September 2025 and the murder of a Västerås resident in Thailand in January. A major trial is currently ongoing behind closed doors in Västmanland District Court concerning the shooting in Eriksborg in August 2024, where eleven shots were fired at a person who managed to escape unharmed on an electric scooter.

The attempted murder was directed at one of the gang leaders, and police suspect that the other side ordered the murder. Nine people, eight men and one woman, are charged with involvement in the attempted murder, and all deny the crime. Three underage boys are suspected of carrying out the shooting, and their guilt is being tried through so-called evidence trial.

The identities of the gang leaders involved in the split and the attempted murder have not been disclosed. The trial continues as authorities investigate the network's activities.
