Tyson Fury's return to the ring this weekend is being fueled by his two defeats to Oleksandr Usyk. Former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price believes Fury wants another crack at Usyk, and the two defeats are still eating away at him. Fury retired after his second successive loss to Usyk at the end of 2024 and went a calendar year without a fight before announcing his latest comeback on January 4. Fury makes his return to the ring on Saturday night when he faces Arslanbek Makhmudov in a bout at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium which will be broadcast live on Netflix.
Joseph Parker has been training alongside Tyson Fury in Thailand ahead of Fury's return fight against Arslanbek Makhmudov on Saturday. According to Joseph Parker, Tyson Fury has never looked sharper. Fury's camp in Thailand is a heat-soaked, back-to-basics grind built on sweat, repetition and a clear message: the comeback is serious. Fury is training out of ISS Boxing & Muay Thai, living on a boat in the harbour, and working under Robert McInnes (known as 'Sifu') and Sugar Hill Steward.
Thailand is a very different place from what I'm used to in terms of training. Usually Tyson's in Morecambe Bay. He's trained overseas before, in France a few times, but for me it's always been Morecambe. Then you go to Thailand, where the sun is shining every day, the food is very good, and he had a great setup there at the gym he was using.
Fury has previously used Thailand ahead of bouts with Francis Ngannou and Oleksandr Usyk. Fury embraces unconventional recovery methods in Thailand, including post-session massages on the gym floor and being stretched, kneaded and covered in oils by local therapists.
David Price was not surprised to see Fury return from retirement because he's too young and too good to stay retired, and it's about his legacy and purpose in life.
He had all the weights there, the boxing gym at the top, recovery facilities, and then the place where you're staying. He invited me into camp and I said, 'You know what, I want to come over, Tyson.' So I went over for two weeks with my wife and kids. Then I was getting ready to fly home and he said, 'Can you come back just to be a part of the camp and help me out?' I thought about it and was like, what am I doing back home? Yeah, I'm spending time with family, which for me is the best thing in the world. But I also missed the sport and being around boxing.
David Price believes Fury can beat Usyk in a trilogy fight because there was not much in either fight; neither of them were one-sided fights. Fury said he got robbed in his fights against Usyk, but a lot of fighters do that.
Fury has been out of the ring for sixteen months.
Tyson works hard, he really does. He's taking this fight very seriously, to the point where it's like he's preparing as if he's fighting a world champion. That's the respect he has for the sport and the game. So I'm looking forward to seeing what he's going to do, because it's been a great camp.
Listen, you don't know until you try it. It's not bad at all. After sessions, I'll go downstairs and get my massage done, and then when he comes down, I'm finished and he gets his. It's one of those things where, when I got to camp, they said to me, 'Try this.' And I wa
I still think he can beat Usyk because there was not much in either fight; neither of them were one-sided fights. He is going to be going for another fight with Usyk, and why wouldn't you? Because the defeats will be eating away at him. It was always going to be interesting to see how he responded to losing, and I think he responded well. He said he got robbed, but a lot of fighters do that. He's not acting like Deontay Wilder is, who is accusing people of cheating and things like that. He's taken his medicine and now he's coming back and you have got to admire him.
I was expecting it for a long time. He was always going to come out of retirement because he's too young and too good to stay retired. He has got no reason to be retired, and he hasn't got enough things going on outside of boxing to not make him go back to boxing. It is not about money either; it is about his legacy and purpose in his life. I always thought he would fight again. He has been out of the ring for sixteen months, and fighters at his level sometimes only fight once a year, so it isn't that long, and he's a former two-time heavyweight champion of the world who has been a pro for 18 years.
