During the Ramadan fasting month, nearly half of the players and some coaches in the Procyons P11 football team are fasting. When training cannot be scheduled after sunset, they break their fast together. Many players and coaches have not eaten or drunk for over twelve hours when training starts.
Before breaking the fast, they typically train at a slower pace to intensify later when energy is replenished. The team consists of 24 boys, ten of whom are fasting. After 45 minutes, the coach blows the whistle to gather the team for breaking the fast.
it can be tough sometimes, with thirst and hunger, but it is not too difficult because it gets dark early this year
Players run to their bags to get water bottles and dates, with some sharing with teammates before returning to the field. It is very rare for a player to skip training due to fasting, but on isolated occasions, someone has stayed home to break the fast in peace. The coaches are responsible for the players' health, reminding them to hydrate sufficiently during the hours they can drink and ensuring they eat properly.
Every other day, they try to contribute by offering really good food. The coaches also aim to be there for the players.
