Rune Mases, a former hockey coach, has died at the age of 97. He reportedly led Leksand to its first Swedish championship gold in 1969 and is considered one of the greatest leaders in the club's history. According to reports, he built the team that won three more golds in the 1970s and was instrumental in recruiting players like Mats Åhlberg.
In 2019, his coaching jacket was raised to the ceiling of Leksand's home arena during the club's 100th anniversary celebration. Current Leksand coach Johan Hedberg described Mases as a fantastic person and a key figure in the club's history. Mats Åhlberg recalled that Mases was a highly engaged and respected leader who laid the foundation for the team's success.
