Fredrick Federley, the former Center Party MP and EU parliamentarian who left politics in 2020, is reportedly making a political comeback ahead of the 2026 elections. According to SVT Nyheter, Federley has been selected as a candidate for both the municipal election in Gagnef and the regional election in Dalarna.

Federley told SVT that he is "incredibly grateful" that party members have chosen to highlight him. His political career was interrupted in late 2020 when news emerged that he had been in a relationship with a convicted pedophile, leading him to leave all political positions. In a 2023 interview, Federley stated he knew the person had been in prison but not for what crime, arguing that elected officials should be able to date convicted individuals and that everyone deserves a second chance.

In 2025, Federley took his first steps back into politics by being elected to the Center Party's Dalarna district board and running in the church election. Ulrica Momqvist, chair of the Center Party's district board in Dalarna, wrote in an email to SVT Dalarna that she has confidence in the nomination committee's work but declined to comment on individual candidates at this time.

When asked about risks that his past might resurface during the election campaign, Federley responded that the party can clearly see what is organized by political opponents and cannot act based on that, stating that if external forces control internal matters, party members lose control.
