Former Care CEO Acquitted in Murder-Linked Work Environment Case

Crime & justiceCrime
Key Points
  • A former care CEO was acquitted for a work environment offense linked to a 2022 murder at an Enköping facility.
  • The Court of Appeal found no proven causal connection between work environment deficiencies and the murder.
  • Prosecutor Jennie Nordin appealed the initial acquittal but lost the case and a request for a corporate fine.

The case involved a young woman employed at the facility who was murdered in November 2022. The man who committed the murder, and lived at the LSS housing facility, was previously sentenced to forensic psychiatric care. 5 years, charges were brought against the CEO in the summer of 2024, suspected of a work environment offense through causing another person's death.

In March 2025, the CEO was acquitted by the Uppsala District Court of all criminal suspicions, but prosecutor Jennie Nordin chose to appeal the verdict. " The prosecutor also requested that the company pay a corporate fine of two million kronor – something that was also rejected by the Court of Appeal. The Court of Appeal makes no other assessments than the District Court and believes that it cannot be proven whether the deficiencies in the work environment had a causal connection with the murder.

" The specific work environment deficiencies at the facility and the evidence presented by the prosecutor to support a causal link remain unclear. The case has concluded with the CEO's acquittal.
