A video circulating on TikTok alleged that a supporter was thrown out of Forest Green Rovers' ground during their final home match of the season for eating a bacon sandwich. The club, however, said the ejection was due to the fan's behaviour, not his food.
Forest Green Rovers, which became the world's first vegan football club in 2015, faced Morecambe in the match. Morecambe lost 5-0, and Forest Green qualified for the National League playoffs.
We are aware of a video circulating online following our game against Morecambe yesterday. Contrary to social media opinion & wisdom, the ejection was nothing to do with bacon sarnies (sic) more a little 'over exuberance' on the last day of the season. After repeated warnings, the stewards were left with no choice and the gentleman was ejected from the stadium. #neverletthetruthgetinthewayofagoodstory #slownewsday.
In a statement on social media, the club said: 'We are aware of a video circulating online following our game against Morecambe yesterday. The club added: '#neverletthetruthgetinthewayofagoodstory #slownewsday.'
It remains unclear what exactly the fan did that constituted 'over-exuberance', whether he actually had a bacon sandwich, or if he was a Morecambe supporter as claimed in the TikTok caption. The number of warnings and the fan's identity have not been disclosed.
