Key Points
  • Foreign truck with severe cargo shift and width violation halted at Fauske control
  • Additional safety violations included brake issues and missing snow chains
  • Broader control found brake deficiencies and expired certificates on other vehicles

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration conducted a comprehensive control of heavy vehicles and vans at Fauske traffic station on Friday, focusing on traffic safety, winter equipment, and technical condition. The most serious finding occurred after the public reported a foreign truck with visible damage. When inspectors stopped the vehicle, it was revealed that the cargo inside the semi-trailer had shifted so severely that the wall bulged 54 centimeters to the side.

The truck measured 309 centimeters in width, against the permitted 255 centimeters, which posed a significant danger to oncoming traffic. The identity or company of the foreign truck driver has not been disclosed. Additional safety violations were discovered on the truck.

A brake test revealed a cracked brake disc on the trailer, and the driver lacked two required snow chains, resulting in a fine of 3,000 kroner. The truck was issued a use prohibition and sealed on site until all conditions are rectified. It remains unknown what specific country the driver was from.

During the control, an extended brake test was conducted on four additional vehicles. Two of these vehicles received written deficiencies due to poor brakes, and another driver was fined for driving with an expired temporary vehicle certificate. The exact time or duration of the control operation on Friday has not been confirmed.

The broader control operation by Norwegian authorities emphasized traffic safety and winter equipment checks. The total number of vehicles inspected during the control is unclear, and it is unknown whether any injuries or accidents occurred due to the dangerous conditions before the control.
