The fishing vessel 'Amalie Sofie' sank on August 5, 2025, east of Bugøynes in Øst-Finnmark, according to multiple reports. Three people were on board the vessel when it sank, with two rescued alive and one reported missing after the incident. A deceased person was found in the wreckage on Sunday evening, as confirmed by multiple sources.

Police have identified the deceased as presumed to be Olaf Birger Danielsen, and his relatives have been notified of the finding. The deceased will be sent for autopsy for forensic examination and confirmation of identity, police said. The police hope to remove the deceased from the vessel and then lift the boat during Monday.

However, the police cannot say what may have caused the accident until the boat is out of the water, and the exact timing of the lifting remains uncertain. The Norwegian Safety Investigation Authority (Statens havarikommisjon) is in Kirkenes and will start investigations when the boat is lifted. New attempts to lift 'Amalie Sofie' were planned for Friday, according to reports.

The cause of the sinking and the confirmed identity of the deceased through autopsy are still unknown, pending further investigation.
