The County Administrative Board has focused extra on fishing license checks this spring, according to SVT Nyheter. About ten people travel around checking anglers, with 200 individuals inspected to date. Four reports of illegal fishing have been filed from these checks, though the specific penalties or consequences resulting from these reports remain unclear.
It is also unknown how many of the 200 checks were conducted in mountainous areas versus other locations, or what percentage of anglers typically comply with fishing license requirements in Västerbotten. During the winter, Peder Karlsson has checked fishing licenses among anglers who have gone out on the ice, and almost everyone has had a valid fishing license.
