Secretary General Sverre Johansen said the seafood industry is critical for Norwegian food preparedness and sovereignty assertion, and that access to important fishing grounds is absolutely crucial. Although the association acknowledges that satellite technology is also useful for the fleet, it demands better coordination and clear priorities when interests collide. The goal is a sustainable coexistence where the space adventure does not impose further economic disadvantages or operational disruptions on coastal communities.
The Norwegian Fishermen's Association is sending a clear signal to the government that the increasing space activity on Andøya must not come at the expense of the fishing and seafood industry.
