A fire broke out at the velodrome in Rio de Janeiro's Olympic Park early on Wednesday morning, Brazilian time. Firefighters were called to the scene, with 20 fire trucks and 80 firefighters working to extinguish the blaze. The fire was quickly brought under control with no risk of spreading, and no injuries were reported.
The velodrome and the Olympic Museum inside the arena were barely affected by the fire, according to Rio de Janeiro's mayor Eduardo Cavaliere. The cause of the fire is unknown. This is the third time in ten years that the roof of the Olympic arena has caught fire, with previous incidents in 2017 also causing no major damage or injuries.
