The International Football Federation (FIFA) has presented the referees who will officiate the football World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Glenn Nyberg will be the referee during the summer's championship, with Mahbod Beigi and Andreas Söderkvist as assistant referees. The 37-year-old Glenn Nyberg becomes Sweden's contribution to the record-large referee group, which consists of 52 main referees, 88 assistants, and 30 video referees from 50 member countries, according to a press release from FIFA.
The selection has taken place over three years and is based on quality and consistency in performance at the highest level, both internationally and nationally, FIFA writes. The 2026 World Cup will be the largest so far with 48 teams and 104 matches in three host countries. The referees will gather in Miami for preparations ahead of the tournament.
