The calendar committee for jumping in FIS held a meeting in Prague over the weekend, though nothing was decided. However, the draft schedule that now exists could very well become the final one, and if so, there will only be competitions for men in Vikersund next winter. The background for the female elite not getting a chance in the mammoth hill in Modum is stated to be a lack of space in the calendar.
The men's competitions in Modum have been moved to the weekend of February 19 to 21 – a few days before the World Championships in Falun. That weekend was free for men, but not for the women, who are supposed to jump in Austrian Villach that weekend according to plan. Thus, there was suddenly no room for Vikersund for women.
Terje Lund, a jump leader, said that feedback from FIS indicated a mistake had been made. According to a wire report, an unspecified representative described the situation as very sad and unfortunate. It remains unclear what specific steps FIS is taking to resolve the calendar conflict for women's ski flying, and whether there is any possibility of rescheduling to include women's events in Vikersund next winter.
The identity and exact role of the speaker Aalbu are also not confirmed.
