Five new statues have been installed at the archaeological site in Uppåkra, Sweden. The statues were created by artist Jackie K Persson and are based on archaeological finds from the Iron Age settlement. One statue, named Musse, is based on a dress ornament with large, round ears on a round head that has been described as resembling Mickey Mouse.
Two other statues are based on a lion statuette called Helge and an Odin statuette, both of which were excavated at the site. Karin Nilsson from the Uppåkra Archaeological Center stated that the artist is making a reinterpretation of archaeological objects and that the public should be part of the exciting journey to bring Uppåkra back to life, including through artistic expressions.
