Felix Monsén was not selected for the Olympics when the World Cup resumed in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. He finished 17th in the super-G and earned 14 World Cup points. Sweden gave away a spot that could have been used for Monsén, particularly for a team event with Kristoffer Jakobsen, and later tried to get it back, but it was already taken by Germany.
Monsén said he has no understanding of the decision, as he was told Kitzbühel was his last chance to qualify, and he did not understand why the decision was made before that final qualifying race. He achieved a career-best tenth place in Kitzbühel's downhill. The top three in the event were all Swiss, with Marco Odermatt returning to dominant form.
I have no understanding of the decision, as I was told Kitzbühel was my last chance to qualify, and I did not understand why the decision was made before that final qualifying race.
Notably, Olympic champion Franjo van Almen finished sixth after being pushed out in the technically demanding turns at the end.
