An extreme cold has been over all of Sweden for the past month with unusually low temperatures. According to meteorologist Viktor Bergman at SMHI, milder air is expected to break through next weekend, at least temporarily, in the south, with temperatures possibly going above freezing. In Gotaland, and possibly also in Svealand, it could reach up to five degrees above freezing, but not more than that, Bergman added.
The reason for the icy cold over Sweden is reportedly a long-lasting high-pressure system, which in wintertime causes the cold to linger for a longer period. A low-pressure system with snow and rain is expected to move in over the southern parts of the country, leading to the cold abating.
