The season for Swedish cross-country skiing stars has just ended. SVT expert Anders Blomquist predicts that Alvar Myhlback could challenge for a gold medal at the upcoming World Championships in Falun. In February, 19-year-old Myhlback impressed at the Olympics by reaching the semifinal in the classic sprint.
However, next year's World Championships in Falun will have the sprint in freestyle, meaning the Swede cannot use his strong classic technique there. Blomquist believes Myhlback could still compete for a medal at the World Championships, but in a different discipline. How the rest of the season will look for Myhlback is difficult to predict, according to Blomquist.
The expert thinks he will continue primarily with Ski Classics and participate in World Cup events when they fit his schedule. Blomquist says that as a young athlete, everything is new for Myhlback, and a new championship like the World Championships on home soil is very appealing alongside Ski Classics. He believes Myhlback will have roughly the same approach as this year, wanting to train hard and continue developing, mainly with Ski Classics.
