Paige Shiver was identified as Moore's former executive assistant and alleged mistress. During police interrogations, Moore admitted to having an improper affair with a staff member. According to police, Moore allegedly barged into Shiver's apartment after his dismissal and threatened to harm himself with butter knives and scissors. Moore denied making any threats to Shiver or physically harming her.

In police footage, Moore blamed Shiver for ruining his life and claimed she lied, according to multiple reports. Moore stated he wanted to fire Shiver after their affair ended but she threatened to sue him.

He has had the opportunity to be with his daughters, to be with his wife, to be home for the holidays, to take his kids to swim lessons. As somebody who came up the coaching tree and became a head coach at a young age, that is something he missed out on.

Shiver accused Moore of having 'complete control' over her and using his power to manipulate her. In a statement, Shiver accused the University of Michigan of failing to protect her from 'years of manipulation, harassment, and exploitation.' Her attorneys stated that Moore 'took advantage of a younger, female employee' and that leadership failed to act for years.

Moore's attorney Ellen Michaels argued the initial arrest warrant relied on 'glaring' omissions by law enforcement. Judge J. Cedric Simpson suggested Moore's due process might have been violated by an 'intentional misdirection' by police in the warrant. Moore's attorney indicated he may return to coaching after the plea deal.

I mean, here's a man that had complete control over me, over my emotions, over my career. He knew that and he used it against me. Every time I tried to pull away, every time I tried to try get out of Michigan, he always had a story, always had a way to pull me in and making me feel that I couldn't leave him because he was so miserable without me.
