According to multiple reports, Carolina Flores Gomez was shot 12 times in the face, neck and head at her home in Mexico City on April 15. The alleged shooter is her 63-year-old mother-in-law, Erika Herrera.
Harrowing footage from inside the home shows Carolina walking around before being followed by Herrera, then shots are heard. According to Daily Mail - News, Carolina's husband Alejandro Gomez reacted nonchalantly, asking his mother 'What crazy thing did you do?' while holding their baby. According to Daily Mail - News, Erika Herrera responded 'Nothing. She made me angry.' and later said 'You're mine and she stole you.'

The family did not report the fatal shooting until the following day. Carolina's mother, Reyna Gomez Molina, said the delay in reporting was due to concern for the young child.
Police have launched an investigation and an arrest warrant has been issued against Herrera, whose whereabouts are unknown, according to Reforma. The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and it is unknown whether there was any prior history of conflict between Carolina and her mother-in-law.

Alexa Villalobos, a friend, said: 'Carolina was beautiful inside and out; loving, charismatic, and helpful. It seems impossible to believe that someone with so much grace could leave in this way; the snatching away of a life full of dreams and love is something unforgivable. I want justice for Caro, for her family, her mother, her little sister, and her baby, who were her greatest happiness.' Her former school, El Tesoro del Saber, said in a statement: 'With deep sadness we want to express our most sincere condolences for the irreparable loss of our former student Carolina Flores Gomez, who was part of our community from her earliest years. Although time has passed, we fondly remember her time at our school and the joy she shared with us.'
