The Eurovision Song Contest is reportedly expanding to Asia, with an inaugural event scheduled for November 14 in Bangkok, Thailand. According to reports, ten countries are set to participate: Thailand, South Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan. The organizer, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), announced the launch, with Eurovision Song Contest chief Martin Green stating that it aims to develop the contest with Asia while retaining its special elements.
The expansion follows the American Song Contest, which launched four years ago and lasted only one season. An official website for Eurovision Asia was launched but then taken offline, indicating ongoing developments. Meanwhile, the European Eurovision edition is set to take place in Vienna in May, with 35 countries participating, though some have withdrawn over Israel's involvement.
