Esrange base to gain central role for satellite launches

The Esrange space base near Kiruna, Sweden, is expected to gain a central role when the possibility of launching satellites from there becomes a reality in a few years. Interest in launching military and commercial satellites into space is growing, and several NATO countries, including Sweden, are collaborating to develop satellite capability. Globally, the United States dominates the space domain, but several countries are making themselves less dependent on the U.S.
