Electricity prices in Norrbotten, Sweden, may nearly double over the next four years, according to a new market analysis by Svenska Kraftnät. The analysis states that prices in northern Sweden will increase continuously and almost double by 2030 due to electricity-demanding industrial investments such as Stegra and SSAB. Consumption is expected to rise significantly in the north with all industrial initiatives.

Historically high electricity prices were recorded in Norrbotten at the beginning of the year, with the spot price in January at 94 öre, nearly 300 percent higher than the same price the previous year. The analysis also notes that electricity prices will balance between northern and southern Sweden as electricity area SE1 shifts from being a net exporter to a net importer of electricity. The average surplus decreases from 14 TWh in 2026 to -1 TWh in 2030.
