The Swedish Electrical Safety Authority (Elsäkerhetsverket) has initiated a review of construction company Stegra following reports of faulty electrical installations at the new steel plant construction site in Boden. According to the Electricians Union (Elektrikerförbundet), safety concerns were first raised with Stegra in September, but the company reportedly refused to cooperate.

Sven Höckert, safety representative at the Electricians Union, stated that the union alerted Stegra about the deficiencies in September and later reported the company to the Electrical Safety Authority at the end of the year. The authority has also reportedly had difficulty contacting the company regarding the matter.

Stegra's press officer Karin Hallstan responded to the criticism, stating that previous correspondence from the authority 'did not reach the right part of the organization.' Hallstan wrote in a statement that the company does not share the view of a lack of dialogue, citing several meetings with union representatives during the period in question. She suggested the issue may stem from 'some form of communication breakdown in some part of the chain.'

Hallstan emphasized that Stegra welcomes the authority's safety work and will address the questions raised by the Electrical Safety Authority, stating that the company works systematically to ensure electrical installation work complies with current legislation and safety standards.
