Recently, several children and young people have been convicted after running errands for criminal gangs. In response, a new digital tool is intended to help children make the right choices to stop them from being recruited. The digital learning platform Edge, invented by Johanna Lago and Angelina Stefanovic Andersson, allows students to make choices for the fictional character 'Alex,' who faces temptations to earn quick money and end up in the wrong crowd because he feels lonely.
SVT was present when fourth graders at Vallåskolan in Halmstad helped Alex say no to destructive choices. Entrepreneur Johanna Lago, one of the creators behind Edge, studied digital design and innovation at Halmstad University. Johanna Lago and her course colleague Angelina Stefanovic Andersson saw a lack of interactive tools for children.
Children under 12 years old are being recruited. We need to work more preventively.
More tests will now be conducted in schools, and the tool will be further developed. The goal is for schools to be able to use it in the fall term of 2026.
