According to major media, there are two bank holidays next month to celebrate Easter: Good Friday on April 3 and Easter Monday on April 6. Benefits are not paid on bank holidays. If a benefit payment is due on a bank holiday, it should be paid on the previous working day instead, which for April 2025 would be Thursday, April 2.
Getting paid early means a longer wait between benefit payments. The payment change will impact some HMRC benefits, including Child Benefit. Child Benefit is typically paid every four weeks on a Monday or Tuesday.
Benefits will be paid into the normal bank account where they are regularly paid. The amount paid will remain the same unless personal circumstances have changed. Universal Credit is paid on the same day each month.
Tax Credits are typically paid every four weeks or weekly. Attendance Allowance is usually paid every four weeks. Carer’s Allowance is paid weekly in advance or every four weeks.
Child Benefit is usually paid every four weeks, or weekly if you’re a single parent or you or your partner get certain benefits. Disability Living Allowance is usually paid every four weeks. Employment and Support Allowance is usually paid every two weeks.
Income Support is usually paid every two weeks. Jobseeker’s Allowance is usually paid every two weeks. Pension Credit is usually paid every four weeks.
Personal Independence Payment is usually paid every four weeks. State Pension is usually paid every four weeks. It is not known which specific HMRC benefits besides Child Benefit are impacted by the payment change.
If you think you haven't been paid, first double-check your bank account, and if the money isn't there, contact the relevant helpline. Helplines are unlikely to be open on bank holidays.
