The Metropolitan Police were called at 1:15am to reports of a firearm discharge. Officers arrived within four minutes and provided first aid to the victims. A murder investigation has been launched, led by Detective Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo.
No arrests have been made in connection with either incident. DCI Bhangoo described the shooting as an 'act of indiscriminate violence' and said the incident is concerning for the community, with police working to identify those responsible. Police have increased patrols and presence in the area and urge anyone with information to come forward.
About 700 meters away on Acre Lane, a 33-year-old man was stabbed multiple times and is in life-threatening condition. Police were called to the stabbing at 2:17am. Authorities are investigating whether the two attacks are linked.
Witnesses described a car pulling up and firing into the crowd. According to Metro, an 18-year-old witness said people were panicking and running, and there were no issues before the shooting. A 28-year-old mother told Metro she heard bangs and thought they were fireworks, and now fears for her children's safety.
Moh John, a worker at a nearby supermarket, told the Daily Mail he heard noises and saw people run into his shop for shelter. Robert, a 40-year-old local resident, said he did not see the shooting but believes it happened at the barbecue, which was packed. He added that he usually feels safe in the area, where people know each other, but there have been a few stabbings and one gun was caught, though he doesn't think anyone's ever been shot like this.
Forensics officers searched the scene, collecting bullet casings and inspecting debris. Police collected CCTV footage from the supermarket. Footage online showed a man receiving CPR and another being treated on a bench.
On Sunday, about 10 forensics workers were sifting through material on Coldharbour Lane at the shooting site. The shooting occurred near where Keelen Wong was fatally stabbed in 2023. Residents call Coldharbour Lane 'murder mile'.
The deceased was identified as Keanu Taylor. His family paid tribute, describing him as a loving person whose smile lit up a room. Friends mourned him on social media, and flowers and tributes were left at the scene.
According to the BBC, a cousin of the victim said he was 'just a civilian', not involved in gangs, and was on a machine in hospital. The London Ambulance Service treated four patients at the scene, taking two to a major trauma centre and two to a local hospital. The three other victims, aged 21, 47, and 70, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The motive behind the shooting and stabbing remains unknown, and it is unclear if the incidents are definitively linked. No suspects have been identified.
