Dog dies from suspected adder bite on Anglesey
Key Points
  • Baxter died after a suspected adder bite on March 31 in Anglesey.
  • He received veterinary treatment but no anti-venom and died at the practice.
  • No overnight vet care is available on Anglesey since June 2024.

Baxter was a five-year-old Springer-Cocker spaniel adopted by Jo Bowen-Jones two years ago. He was taken to Bodrwnsiwn Vets in Mona within 30 minutes of the bite and given anti-histamines, paracetamol, and a hydration drip, but not anti-venom. The dog died at the veterinary practice after his heart stopped, with Jo Bowen-Jones being informed at 5pm.

Jo Bowen-Jones and the vets are over 80% sure an adder bite killed Baxter, though he did not show typical swelling. No overnight veterinary care has been available for pets on Anglesey since June 2024. An adder was reportedly seen in the same area around the time of the incident.
