The Discrimination Ombudsman (DO) has demanded that Region Örebro pay 100,000 kronor in compensation to a wheelchair user who was forced to crawl onto a bus after the wheelchair lift failed to function. According to reports, the man documented nine separate incidents during 2025 when he struggled to board buses in the region. In his complaint to DO, the man stated that bus drivers either refused or were unable to use the wheelchair lifts, and in some cases, the equipment simply didn't work.

DO noted in their report that 'on a couple of occasions, drivers against the man's will lifted, or attempted to lift him' onto the bus. Region Örebro has reportedly acknowledged failing in its responsibility to provide accessible transportation. The region now has until March 6 to respond to DO's demand for compensation, after which DO may file a lawsuit in district court.
